GRUNDIG’S EMERGENCY RADIO IDEOLOGY

Just like several other emergency radios, the Grundig emergency radio was initiated mainly out of the serious need of communication during extreme situations such as is common during wars and calamities. In war torn areas, getting a power out let that can support your radio system can be quite a daunting task. As most radios operate on external power sources, they are mainly rendered useless during such times. This scenario must have been quite frustrating since it is during such times that the radio is mostly important. People want to be able to get information from others and to be able to pass the same. if their efforts can’t bare any fruits simply for the mare fact that the radios have failed to communicate, it would lead to several misfortunes and losses.

After careful evaluation of the circumstances most radio manufacturers saw the need to design radios that would function in such circumstances. It was out of this burning need for communication during such situations that led manufacturers into the design of the emergency radio. On deciding to come up with a set to serve in such circumstances, the most automatic issue at hand would be the all present source of power to keep the device on regardless of the prevailing circumstances on the ground. As a result, the Grundig radio manufacturers came up with the crank radio technology. This system would ensure that the emergency radio would remain operational even in the face of total power failure which is common during natural calamities such as hurricanes and earth quakes.

There were several options available to power the radios in times of emergency situations. Some of the obvious options would have been generators powered by other alternative sources of power such as petrol and other fuels. As much as the companies tried to exploit several power options for radios in emergency situations, the most outstanding option was the crank option. This method has been used in other emergency radio models by several other radio manufacturers. It is highly recommended because it only requires the user to have some little energy to crank it up for a minute or two.

By cranking the radio for a few minutes, it could sufficiently charge the inbuilt rechargeable batteries to take the set for about an hour or more. The success of this ideology saw most emergency radio sets designed in this principle making it an almost universally acceptable form of powering for emergency situations. As a sure proof of its success, even leading humanitarian organizations which are more inclined to offering services in emergency situations such as the Red Cross have adopted the use of the same technology.
